Pronounced as “me-shil”, the fruit’s scientific name is prunus mume. This sweet and tart fruit, also known as the Japanese ume or the Chinese apricot, is immensely popular in East Asian countries. Bursting with antioxidants, maesil plum is frequently used in recipes because of its flavor and health benefits.

Onggi Earthenware

This traditional Korean earthenware is made from clay and ranges greatly in size and usage. The key characteristic of onggi is the small porous surface that allows for gases to move in and out while sealing in liquids, making it ideal for fermenting and aging certain foods and seasonings. Onggi earthenware is a highly prized possession and often handed down through generations of families.

At our farm, we have onggi jars that have been passed down for over three generations, and most are at least 50 years old. We hope to keep these treasures and their symbolic heritage for generations to come.
